What Makes Us Different?
CHILD is a unique centre in Asia, marrying research capabilities with design and implementation of early childhood development programmes and interventions. Our distinguishing features include:
We leverage on best available research evidence in Singapore and globally to provide solutions. With cutting-edge technology, we are able to make sense of complex information to inform the development and deployment of screenings and interventions for each child.
CHILD’s location in Singapore provides several distinct advantages. The demographics of the country are varied in terms of socioeconomic status and culture, yet society remains relatively cohesive. By virtue of its limited natural resources, the country is a firm advocate of knowledge management – placing a strong emphasis on human capital development.
We move beyond less effective ‘one-size-fits-all’ assessments and interventions towards more targeted methodologies that take into account the individual and evolving context of each child and family to better identify and support children-at-risk.
Our aim is to reduce the current lag time between research informing changes to policy and practice from 10-20 years to less than five years. Our management and organisational structure facilitates co-design and co-production between researchers, and policy and service delivery agencies.
We endeavour to provide contextually-appropriate knowledge to all stakeholders. This includes information sheets and white papers for policymakers and researchers, user-friendly platforms for social service agencies and the general public, and continuing education programmes and focused training for professionals in the field.
We seek to integrate and interpret the available research and evidence about the science of early child development into easily digestible and usable forms for policymakers and practitioners.
