LEarning To Support Caregiving in Singapore families (LET’S Care)

What is LET’S Care?

  • A 6-session training programme for domestic helpers co-caring for young children under 6. 
  • Conducted by early childhood experts from the Centre for Holistic Initiatives for Learning and Development (CHILD), National University of Singapore. 
  • Co-organised by Suncare and Bayanihan Centre, in partnership with Temasek Foundation
  • Includes six 3-hour training sessions conducted on Sundays, twice per month, starting in mid-March to early June. 
  • Participants will receive:
  • science-backed knowledge on child health and development; 
  • skills in caregiving best practices; 
  • opportunities to practise strategies to address common challenging caregiving scenarios; 
  • expert-led interactive sessions; and 
  • resources to support daily routines and co-caring with employer’s family. 

What is unique about LET’S Care?

  • Training content is designed by child development experts in collaboration with experienced domestic helpers and local families to ensure its relevance to real-world caregiving needs. 
  • Course resources and activities incorporate hands-on learning strategies. 
  • Includes complementary access to an online learning portal that can be shared with employer’s family. 

Requirements

  • Employed by Singaporean/PR family. 
  • Co-caring for (or expecting to co-care for) young children under 6. 
  • Open to domestic helpers of all nationalities, who are comfortable speaking and reading in English. 
  • Participants who attend all 6 training sessions will receive a Certificate of Excellence from the Centre for Holistic Initiatives for Learning & Development (CHILD), National University of Singapore. 

Fee

A one-time payment fee of $50, includes a set of reading materials, workbook, e-learning resources and stationery.

Course Content

Overall Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify early life experiences that shape child health and development while laying the foundation for lifelong wellbeing.
  • Describe developmental milestones from birth to six, including physical, cognitive, language and social-emotional development.
  • Identify most recent guidelines and recommendations for child feeding, sleep, screen time and physical activity.
  • Understand how children across developmental ages engage in different stages and types of play.
  • Identify responsive caregiving practices used to foster positive adult-child interactions.
  • Plan caregiving routines and activities that incorporate most recent guidelines and recommendations to support child health and development.
  • Identify and apply responsive caregiving practices in daily adult-child interactions.
  • Respond positively and appropriately to challenging co-caring scenarios.
  • Plan strategies to communicate expectations, align expectations and apply practices with other caregivers in co-caring for children.

  • Importance of first 1000 days.
  • Overview of developmental milestones and factors influencing healthy development during the early years.
  • Introduction to principles of responsive caregiving (the O-U-R practices).

  • Key milestones of language development.
  • Verbal and non-verbal communication.
  • Using the O-U-R practices (responsive caregiving) to build language rich environments, and support children’s social-emotional development.

  • Guidelines and recommendations for nutrition, feeding, sleep, screen time and physical activities.
  • Tools for planning routines and putting them into practice.
  • Applying the O-U-R practices to feeding and sleeping scenarios.

Programme Details

The training will be held at Bayanihan Centre (43 Pasir Panjang Road, Singapore 118503), 9.30am – 12.30pm on the following Sundays:

23 March 2025;
13 April 2025;
27 April 2025;
11 May 2025;
25 May 2025; and
8 June 2025.

We encourage all participants to attend all sessions. However, we empathise with unforeseen circumstances. Unfortunately, there are no replacement sessions at the moment. Session content and materials will be available on our e-learning portal, which you may access to follow up on your absence.

If you foresee that you will be unable to attend more than 2 sessions, do consider joining our waitlist to attend a future training cycle. Cycle 2 will be happening between mid July to October 2025

Registrants only need to pay a one-time payment fee of $50 for the costs of a set of reading materials, workbook, access to e-learning resources and stationery.

Training Content & Delivery

The trainers are experienced educators, early childhood specialists and world-class practitioners in their area of expertise from the Centre for Holistic Initiatives for Learning and Development, National University of Singapore.

There will be informal assessments throughout the training programme to check on your understanding of the delivered content. This includes some self-assessments to facilitate your own learning and and act as feedback to the course trainers.

Participants who complete all 6 training sessions will receive a Certificate of Excellence.

Requirement and Eligibility

If you are a domestic helper employed by a Singaporean/ PR family and is co-caring (or expecting to co-care for) young children under 6, you are invited to join the programme.

The programme will be conducted in English. You need to be comfortable speaking and reading in English.

If you are planning to co-care for a child below 6 in the future, you are welcome to join us.

The training programme is recommended for domestic helpers who are, or will be, directly involved in co-caring for children under 6.

It is not compulsory that you inform your employer. It will be great if your employer is aware of your participation in the training and is able to support your participation.

The training is designed for domestic workers co-caregiving for young children. Employers are not expected to attend the training sessions. Interested employers may access the e-learning online portal to view training content and materials.

We also encourage the trainees to communicate what they are learning with their employers. If employers provide their contact details during registration, we may reach out to them during or after the training to ask for feedback on their experiences and explore ways for them to be involved.
